The “TARE†function is mainly associated with weighing applications, but several of our customers use it for power consumption applications. See an example below:
The C40-D meter has a configuration for direct measurement of AC currents and voltages, as well as processes and temperatures. One of our customers has an application for measuring the drift of single-phase AC motor consumption, and its application consists of a 25-motor test bench, each with a 25/5 Aac ratio transformer. The 5Aac signal is connected to the C40-D meter with an indication scale of 25.00 Aac, where each instrument indicates the consumption of its motor.
The 25 motors are then started until they are brought to their normal working point. At this point, each meter reads the consumption of each engine, usually a very similar value, and the customer applies a “TARE†to all the indicator. All of them now read 0.00 Aac.
After 48 hours, the reading of each meter are is reviewed, observing the drift of each one of them. Those with unusual consumption drifts are discarded for sale and passed on to the technical department for review.
All information is relayed via Modbus RTU to a SCADA data collection system for future analysis.
